Horse riding day trip
About this Journey
This private horseback day trip follows a hidden mountain route from Yuhu Village toward Milk Lake, passing beneath Jade Dragon Snow Mountain through forests, valleys, prayer stones, alpine meadows, and open highland terrain. It is one of the most visually dramatic day trips in Lijiang, but it also needs a respectful pace because the landscape is real mountain country.

The route is not only about riding. Guests move through places with different moods: Longnv Lake, primitive pine forest, Tingtao Valley, a Mani stone prayer site, the steeper Luoshakou section, Thousand-Acre Alpine Meadow, Ganheba, and finally Milk Lake. Each stop adds a layer to the feeling of leaving the village world behind.

This experience works best for guests who want a private outdoor adventure with strong photography potential and a sense of remoteness. The horse team handles the riding route, while short walking sections and the return by private vehicle keep the day manageable.

Itinerary
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Lijiang Hidden Horseback Trail and Milk Lake
Lijiang / Yuhu Village / Jade Dragon Snow Mountain / Milk Lake
Around 10:00 - Start from Yuhu Village and meet the horse team for a safety briefing. The guide confirms riding pace and explains the mountain route toward Milk Lake before guests mount and leave the village area.
Ride through Longnv Lake, primitive pine forest, Tingtao Valley, and the Mani Stone Prayer Site. These sections show different faces of the mountain: water, forest, valley sound, and Tibetan-influenced prayer culture along the route.
At Luoshakou, dismount and walk for approximately 5 minutes through the steeper section before continuing toward Thousand-Acre Alpine Meadow and Ganheba. The ride then approaches Milk Lake, the main hidden scenic highlight of the day.
After reaching Milk Lake, enjoy time for photos and rest. The return includes a short downhill walk of about 15 minutes, then a private vehicle transfer back to Yuhu. The full experience usually takes about 3 to 5 hours.
Scenic Highlights
Scenic highlights

Yuhu Village Departure
This Lijiang cultural highlight is tied to Naxi life rather than simple sightseeing. Stone lanes, village houses, music, Dongba symbols, and mountain-facing courtyards all help guests understand how local identity is carried through daily places and inherited traditions. During the tour, this stop should be explained in relation to the wider route, so the image carries context instead of functioning as decoration alone.

Tingtao Valley and Prayer Stones
Tingtao Valley and Prayer Stones is kept as a scenic highlight because it gives this journey a specific visual and cultural moment. Rather than treating the image as decoration, the stop should help guests understand the route through landscape, local life, weather, and the slower details that make Yunnan memorable.

Milk Lake
This riding highlight shows Lijiang from the ground rather than from a viewpoint. Horses, fields, lakes, forest, and mountain tracks turn the landscape into a lived route, with Jade Dragon Snow Mountain shaping the mood from the background. During the tour, this stop should be explained in relation to the wider route, so the image carries context instead of functioning as decoration alone.
